2.3 Lakh Users MNP Request Rejected in Delhi

Mobile Number Portablity or simply MNP is a service which allows mobile phone users to change their mobile operator without having to change their mobile number

Around 2.3 Lakh mobile users where not able to switch their mobile operator using Mobile Number Portability in Delhi for various reasons [Till July 2011]

According to Communications Minister Kapil Sibal

“Total 8,39,471 requests for MNP have been received in Delhi licence service area with all service providers till July 31 out of which MNP was allowed in 6,11,179 cases”

The reasons include wrong UPC [Unique Porting Code], subsisting contractual obligations and blacklisted subscriber numbers.

Going in little detail

  • 32.43 percent of Mobile Number Portability Requests rejected because of wrong porting code
  • 23.84 percent were denied the service due to subsisting contractual obligations, which subscriber failed to complied
  • 18 percent Mobile Number Portability Requests because the mobile number is blacklisted or has has not paid its bills
  • 14.23 percent MNP requests because the mobile user didnt complete 90 days with the current mobile operator
