The History of Mobile Communications

Mobile communications have been around for longer than you might think. Radiophones, for example, were first demonstrated around 1907 when Reginald Fessenden created an invention allowing telephone communications to be established via radio between the shore and the ships at sea used by the Navy. The military used radio telephones throughout the second world war. Hand held mobile radio communication devices have been around since 1973.
The First Car Phones

Believe it or not, the first telephone call to be made from a moving car was made back in 1946, on June 17. The device was much to large to be practical at the time, but it was mobile nonetheless. It weighed in at eighty pounds and cost the equivalent of more than three hundred dollars a month (30 dollars at the time) through an AT&T plan.
